Cass Marks started making movies since he was 9 years old. At the time, he used to make stop-motion brickfilms. At a certain point, he realized he could just point the camera at his friends and have them act out the scenes.
When he was young, he went to see a night show called Fantasmic! It was a scary show, so his mother had to rush out with his baby brother, leaving him and his grandmother with the camera. They both had no clue of how to turn the camera on. He was left with no footage of the show. When the show ended his mom taught him how to turn on the camera and, along with his brother, they both started waving they glow sticks and mimicking the sounds of the show. It was a memorable moment. Regarding camerawork, according to Cass, “I started learning that night, and I guess I never stopped.”
Cass did get a film degree in college, admitting that it partially helped him to get to where he is today. Nonetheless, all the workshops and the work he got at a production company definitely taught him good lessons. He feels very satisfied when people “get it” when they watch his films. Overall, he really enjoys the feeling that comes along with the process of filmmaking. His film philosophy is to use everything that is available to him, therefore avoiding costs.
